About the Hike:
Sunset Hill is located in the Forest Society's Hay Reservation. Although home to a fine network of trails, the summit itself is relatively unexciting, as the view continues to grow in, although it remains a nice, ledgy place for a picnic. The Sunset Hill Trail starts on an old road through an open field. The road winds back and forth through the field for a little less than half a mile before the trail enters the woods. It ascends through the forest at a moderate, steady grade. The trail emerges at a large rock clearing at the summit in 0.9 miles from the parking area. The view is very limited, as there are many trees blocking it. You can peek through and see a small part of Lake Sunapee as well as Mt. Sunapee. The clearing is a very nice place for a picnic.
